All transactions have costs ranging from a postage stamp to salaries. Link Charity is operated frugally as a non-profit organization and as a registered charity. There is an administration charge of ½% from investment income. Each annuity agreement is carefully tracked by Link in a separate bookkeeping account for the rest of your life, adding your share of the investment income and subtracting your income payments. It is possible that a person could outlive their life expectancy significantly. To make sure everyone, no matter how old, will always be paid, ½% of the annual investment income is set aside in a special reserve. Finally, the referring financial planner or charity is paid ½% per year out of the investment income for a maximum of 5 years.

The board had a tri-annual actuarial valuation completed based on the June 30, 2010 year-end as required by the Canadian Charitable Annuity Association, of which Link Charity is a member in good standing. The board deems the reserve adequate, and has suspended charging the ½% to add to the special reserve until further notice.
